PandaLive About

What is PandaLive?

PandaLive is a place on the web to watch people stream and to talk to someone new 1-on-1, without installing anything. This page explains why we built it that way, who it suits and how it pays for itself. For a screen-by-screen tour, see how PandaLive works.

PandaLive in one paragraph

PandaLive (also written Panda Live) is a website for meeting people on camera. You can watch someone who is streaming in the Live tab, type in their room and send a gift, or go 1-on-1 with one person by video, voice or text. It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer, you can start as a guest, and it is free to start, with coins for the paid parts.

That is the whole idea: no profile to polish before anyone will talk to you, and no download standing between you and the first hello.

Why does PandaLive run in a browser?

Because most people decide whether they like a chat site in the first two minutes, and an install eats most of that. In a browser, you open a link and you are looking at real people. Pin it to your home screen and it sits there like any app icon.

There are smaller reasons too. A web page doesn't need updating through a store, doesn't take up space on an old phone, and works the same on the family laptop as on your own handset. It also means one PandaLive, wherever you open it, instead of slightly different versions per device.

The trade-off is that your browser handles camera and microphone permissions, so the first visit asks you to allow them. The PandaLive app page walks through that for iPhone, Android and computers.

Watch first, talk second

Why put live streams and 1-on-1 chat together?

Because a cold start is the hardest part of talking to someone new, and watching first takes the edge off. Think of Sam in Glasgow: he opens a live room, listens to someone in Bogotá chat with her viewers for ten minutes, types a question about the music, and only then taps Start Video Chat.

Random matching suits the other mood, when you want surprise and don't mind a few quick hellos and goodbyes before one sticks. Having both under one roof means you choose the pace each time instead of the site choosing it for you. Plenty of evenings end up as both: a while in someone's room, then a handful of random matches before bed. The Panda Live streams page explains the room side in detail.

Who PandaLive is for

We built it for three kinds of evening rather than three kinds of person, because most people have all three.

When you are bored and want a real voice

The phone is full of things to scroll and nobody to talk to. A random match puts a person on the other side in a few taps, and if the chat dies after a minute, the next one is right there.

When you would rather watch before you talk

Some people need to warm up. Sitting in a live room, reading the chat and getting a feel for someone is a gentler way in, and nobody expects you to say anything until you want to.

When you don't share a language

Plenty of conversations on PandaLive cross a border. A tap on the translate button beside a text message turns it into your language, so a typed back-and-forth with someone in Brazil or Vietnam can keep going past hello.

What PandaLive isn't

Saying what a site is not saves everyone time, so here is our list.

  • Not a dating app. There are no swipes, no matching on looks or bios, and no promise that a chat leads anywhere. People come here to talk.
  • Not a place to stream yourself. Viewers can't go live on PandaLive; you watch, type, send gifts and call. Your camera only comes on for a private call you start or accept.
  • Not a way to meet up. We don't arrange or promise meetings in person, and you should be careful with anyone who pushes for one.
  • Not a subscription you have to cancel. It is free to start and runs on coins you top up only if you want to.

What a first visit usually looks like

Most people arrive from a search for the app, half expecting a store page. Instead the site opens straight onto people: a match screen with Video, Audio and Text along the bottom, a list of who is online, and a feed with a Live tab. No email address is asked for up front.

A typical first ten minutes goes something like this. Maria, a nurse finishing a late shift in Tucson, opens PandaLive on her phone in the hospital car park. She skips the camera, picks Text, and swaps three messages with someone in Cartagena about how cold hospital coffee gets. Then she opens the Live tab, watches a room for a few minutes with her sound low, and closes the tab before driving home. She hasn't spent anything and hasn't told anyone her surname.

Some people go straight for video and are in a call within a minute. Others only watch for a week before they say anything. Both are normal here, and neither needs an account until you want your follows and messages to stay put.

Our approach to keeping chats safe

Our approach is simple to describe: ask for as little as possible, and put the exit and report buttons where people actually look for them. You don't need a real name to start, Block and Report sit on each person's profile, and live rooms have their own report icon at the top. Room chat opens with a reminder that spam, harassment, personal info and outside links are not welcome.

We would rather tell you how to protect yourself than claim we can catch everything. Ending a chat or leaving a room is always a single tap. The rules for calls and rooms are on the safety tips page, and the question of whether the site deserves your trust gets its own honest look.

Where does PandaLive’s money come from?

Through coins and an optional VIP membership. New users get some free matches, and after the free part, extra matching, gifts in live rooms and VIP are paid for with coins bought in the wallet. You can see your balance in the wallet at any time.

We think being open about this matters, because not knowing when coins start is an easy way to get a surprise. The full breakdown of what stays free and how coins and gifts work lives on its own two pages, so you can read it before spending anything.

Where do people on PandaLive come from?

From all over: people from more than 50 countries use PandaLive, and roughly one in five is in the United States. That spread is why someone is nearly always around, whatever your time zone, and why the Who's online list can be sorted by language.

It also shapes the mood of the site. A Tuesday night in Denver is a Wednesday morning in Jakarta, so a quiet hour for you might be the busiest hour for someone else. If you like hearing how other people live, that is part of the fun.

Talking to the PandaLive team

For anything a report button can't carry, such as a coin top-up that didn't arrive, a privacy request or a question about these pages, email the team. The contact page lists what to put in the message so we can help on the first reply.

If you just want to see what all of this looks like in practice, the quickest way is to open the PandaLive home page and look around as a guest.
